Brett Michaels suffers a "Brain Hemorrhage"

"Rock of Love" reality star, "Celebrity Apprentice" contestant, and frontman for the rock group Poison is recovering from a subarachnoid hemorrage (SAH) !!!

Anyone remember how SAH’s present?

On April 22, he called for an ambulance after a severe headache which he described as ‘it felt like getting hit in the head with a baseball bat over and over again!’ Sounds like the classic “thunderclap headache”!!! The worst headache of my life.

What test would you do to detect the bleed and what would it look like?

A CT scan is the initial test of choice and it shows blood at the base of the brain at the circle of Willis. A cerebral angiogram will also be performed.

What is the most common cause of a non-traumatic subarchnoid hemorrhage?

Rupture of a saccular (berry) aneurysm. Berry aneurysms are most commonly located at branch points of the anterior circle of Willis. They can be associated with autosomal dominant polycystic disease, Ehlers-Danlos, and Marfan’s Syndromes. In Bret Michaels case, despite an extensive workup, no source for the hemorrhage has been discovered.

This isn’t the first health issue for Bret. He is a Type 1 Diabetic and a week before his SAH he had an emergency appendectomy for appendicitis. Maybe he should only have nurses on the next Rock of Love!

The good news is that Bret Michaels is recovering well and is scheduled to appear on Oprah this week. He’s also expected to give his first concert at the end of the month! You just can’t keep a good Rocker down!!!!
