Mallory Body Mnemonic
Here's a fun way to remember the key disease association for Mallory bodies using the FX adult animated comedy TV series “Archer”:
Mallory bodies (Mallory-Denk body or Mallory's hyaline) are an accumulation of ubiquinated cytokeratin intermediate filaments. It appears as eosinophilic cytoplasmic inclusions in swollen (ballooned) hepatocytes as shown by the arrows in the H&E stained microscopic photo.
Mallory bodies are most commonly associated with alcoholic hepatitis but can also be found in many other diseases including alcoholic cirrhosis, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), Wilson's disease, Primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC), and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
“Malory” Archer is the mother of Sterling Archer and the head of the “International Secret Intelligence Service" (ISIS) from the FX adult animated comedy TV series “Archer”. She often has an alcoholic drink in one hand as depicted in this MEME parody.
